Sepp van den Berg to miss Liverpool's trip to Tranmere as Jurgen Klopp juggles his options

Liverpool supporters will have to wait for a first glimpse of new signing Sepp van den Berg in action.

Fans had hoped to watch the 17-year-old when the Reds begin their pre-season programme at League One neighbours Tranmere Rovers on Thursday evening.

However, the Dutch defender – who last month completed a £1.3million transfer from PEC Zwolle – has yet to receive international clearance.

It means he is unable to feature for Jurgen Klopp's side at a sell-out Prenton Park.

While van den Berg is ineligible, the number of first-team absentees means Liverpool are expected to give an opportunity to youngsters such as Bobby Duncan, Paul Glatzel and Yasser Larouci.

Tranmere vs Liverpool: Reds prepare for first pre-season friendly

Simon Mignolet is likely to feature against Tranmere despite only returning to Melwood on Thursday morning, while senior players Fabinho, James Milner, Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and Divock Origi are all set to be given minutes.

Liverpool's next friendly is at Bradford City on Sunday, after which they jet out for their US tour and games against Borussia Dortmund, Sporting Lisbon and Sevilla.
