Sepp van den Berg reacts to going 'viral' on his first day of Liverpool training

Liverpool's first signing of the summer transfer window has officially arrived after Sepp van den Berg took part in training for the first time today.

The 17-year-old made the switch from PEC Zwolle to Anfield last month but had to wait until today to be welcomed into the fold at Melwood.

Liverpool shared a video of players and Jurgen Klopp being introduced to the centre-back before training, with the footage going viral amongst the Reds' community.

The Reds boss was taken aback by the size of his new recruit, and exclaimed: "My God, I didn't think you were so tall! It's impressive.”

Speaking about the clip of him chatting with Klopp which received a positive reaction from fans on social media, Van den Berg told the club's website: "I saw it on my phone! Already viral!

"I’d only seen him on TV only when I was sat at home, so seeing him in real life...I think everybody could see I was nervous, but he is a really nice guy.

"I feel really comfortable with him."

Van den Berg was one of 16 players to start pre-season training today and has now reflected on his whirlwind first day at the Reds.

He added: "It’s been great. When I walked in, I was quite nervous, but I talked to the players and the staff and I feel at home. It feels good.

"Everybody has been really nice to me, they all said 'hi' and helped me if I had any questions, so it feels a really nice place. Jurgen came to me when I walked in, too, so I’m really excited."

Assessing the training session and infamous lactate drill, he added: “It was tough. The first day of pre-season was a little easier where I came from, but it’s good. Tough, but very good.

“I feel great. As I said, I already feel really at home here and that’s a big thing for me. I am just looking forward; I am going to train hard and hopefully I will play some minutes here.”
