The sentencing hearing for Seattle Seahawks linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been postponed for the fourth time. As reported by ESPN’s Brady Henderson, the new date is Nov. 21, according to a spokesperson for the U.S. District Court’s Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Kendricks is being sentenced following a guilty plea for insider trading. The date was originally set for Jan. 23, then Jan. 25, April 14 and most recently Sept. 25.
The November date will fall just three days before Seattle’s Week 12 matchup with Kendricks’ former team, the Eagles, on Sunday night.
Sentencing dates get postponed for a lot of reasons, and it is not uncommon for them to be changed at the request of the defense or the U.S. attorney.
Kendricks is Seattle’s starting Sam linebacker. He completes a formidable linebacker trio for the Seahawks that includes Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright. In fact, coach Pete Carroll loves the trio so much that he sparingly using his traditional nickel defense against the Bengals in Week 1, preferring to have all three linebackers on the field at once.
Should Kendricks miss any time, the Seahawks would likely turn to third-round pick Cody Barton to fill in at the Sam spot. The team also has Ben Burr-Kirven and Shaquem Griffin as options.
