Sentence hearing for two teenage boys convicted of murdering Ana Kriegel adjourned until October

The sentence hearing for the two teenage boys convicted of murdering 14-year-old Ana Kriégel in May last year has been adjourned until October.

The two 14-year-olds have been in detention since their convictions last month.

The teenagers known as Boy A and Boy B were convicted last month of murdering Ana in a derelict farmhouse in Lucan.

Mr Justice Paul McDermott said he was adjourning the sentencing until psychiatric and other reports are completed.

The court heard today that these have not been completed and would not be finalised for some time.

Last month a jury found Boy A assaulted the schoolgirl, and that Boy B lured her to the house knowing what was going to happen, watched the attack and lied afterwards.

The boys were not sentenced to the mandatory sentence of life in prison for murder because of their age.

Instead, they were remanded to Oberstown Detention Centre to allow probation reports and psychiatric reports to be prepared.

The court also heard that the report from Oberstown has not been finalised.

Victim impact statements are now to be heard at the sentencing hearing.

Justice McDermott adjourned the case until October 29 and said he hoped the various reports would be ready by then.

Both boys were remanded to Oberstown until that date.
