Sentence deferred over EK drink-driver who lashed out at cops

A drink driver smashed a police car window after officers detained him.

Scott Brown, 36, of Gordon Drive, East Kilbride, admitted a string of charges when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

Despite being banned from driving, he took a car from outside his home without the owner’s consent in the early hours of November 16.

Brown then drove the vehicle while disqualified and without insurance on Queensway and Maxwellton Avenue before police officers tracked him down.

The court heard he headbutted a window of the police vehicle, causing the glass to break.

He also shouted abuse and threats while being arrested and after officers took him to Hairmyres Hospital to have him checked out.

Tests showed Brown was three and a half times over the drink-drive limit.

The court was also told that he was the subject of four separate bail orders at the time of the offences.

He was under a bail curfew that was supposed to prevent him going out after 7pm.

Sheriff Thomas Millar called for a criminal justice social work report and an electronic tagging assessment.

Sentence was deferred until December 18 and the sheriff agreed he should be released on bail again.
