Senior prison officer suspended after allegedly pressing his foot against an inmate's head

A senior officer at a Salford prison has been suspended after allegations that he put his foot on the head of an inmate as he lay in a cell.

Police are investigating the alleged incident at Forest Bank Prison in Agecroft.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the incident took place in the segregation unit within the last few days.

One source said: "The whole thing was captured on an officer's bodycam and that is a key part of the inquiry.

"The officer has been suspended and a relative of the prisoner has made a formal complaint to Greater Manchester Police.

"The prisoner was on the floor in a segregation cell."
