Senior police officer and footballer's wife deny 'sexual activity' in car at Edinburgh park and ride

A senior policeman has denied having sex with a footballer's wife in a car at an Edinburgh park-and-ride.

49-year-old Gareth Blair entered a not guilty plea at a hearing which took place at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday, reports the Daily Record.

Claire Makel, 41, who is married to ex Hearts and Livingston player Lee, also pled not guilty by letter through her solicitors.

Blair, whose address was given as Fettes police headquarters in Edinburgh, and Makel, of Lauder in Berwickshire, are charged with a public indecency offence on April 16 and May 21 last year.

Prosecutors claim the pair were allegedly “undressed and engaging in sexual activity in a motor car in daylight hours and within the view of the public” at the Hermiston park and ride.

The case has been set a trail date in April.

Blair - who grew up in Portobello, Edinburgh, -  joined the police 30 years ago.

He was appointed Police Scotland’s Divisional Commander for Edinburgh in June 2018.

He described the appointment as being a “great privilege.
