Senior Orsted executive to deliver keynote speech at Offshore Wind Connections

A leading Orsted executive has been named as the keynote speaker for Offshore Wind Connections.

Patrick Harnett, head of European execution programmes, will address next month’s high profile conference as the Danish giant and the event both celebrate clocking up a decade of delivery on the Humber over the past year.

The senior figure will share plans for the company's Hornsea Three offshore wind farm. Next in the development pipeline, it will be almost double the size of the latest to enter operation, world-leader Hornsea Two.

A final investment decision is currently awaited on the consented project, as costs are scrutinised after inflationary pressure piled on the record-low subsidy strike price set ahead of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The past month has seen the company underline how it is committed to “green lighting” the £8 billion investment, despite the tough headwinds.

The Hornsea zone followed Westermost Rough, Race Bank and the acquisition of Lincs from Centrica, to cement a cluster leading position on the Humber. Hornsea Four is also in development.

Humber Marine & Renewables, the organisation behind the conference and exhibition, said the audience will also hear more about our other leading projects in the region, with RWE delivering at scale, anchored alongside Orsted in Grimsby. The chance to find out about future opportunities to supply developments has also been flagged.

The exhibition element of the event, this year held at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Hull, has sold out, with a bumper audience anticipated.

Andrew Oliver, chair of Humber Marine & Renewables, said that the level of support for OWC 2023 demonstrated how important the conference had become since it started in 2013.

He said: “From small beginnings when the sector was in its infancy, it is now regarded as an essential annual gathering to get up-to-the-minute information, identify current opportunities and collaborate to ensure that the Humber stays front and centre as a global leader.”

Further high-profile speakers will be announced in the coming days, for the event, which takes place on May 3 and May 4.

The first evening will see a RenewableUK networking drinks event - at which the merger of Team Humber Marine Alliance and Grimsby Renewables Partnership to form Humber Marine & Renewables was completed a year ago - followed by the conference proper on May 4. That evening will see the Humber Renewables Awards delivered by media partner Reach Plc, publisher of Business Live.
