Senior officer's role to be discussed at Liverpool Council disciplinary hearing

The role of a senior officer will be discussed at a Liverpool City Council disciplinary hearing next week.

A meeting of the council's Appointments and Disciplinary Panel has been convened for Tuesday, August 10. It will be held from 9.30am at the Arena and Convention Centre at Kings Dock.

The meeting details, published on the council's website, state that the only matters to be discussed by the panel are 'matters relating to a senior officer.'

The panel will be chaired by Mayor Joanne Anderson, who will be joined on the committee by Labour councillors Lynnie Hinnigan, Doreen Knight, Frazer Lake, Calvin Smeda, Wendy Simon and Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Richard Kemp.

The meeting details do not state who the senior officer involved is or give any reference to what those matters are - and the meeting will be closed to members of the press and the public.

The scheduled meeting follows comments made by Mike Cunningham, the lead commissioner installed at Liverpool City Council in the wake of the devastating Max Caller inspection report.

Mr Cunningham is leading a team of four Whitehall commissioners, who have been placed at the council to oversee improvements following the troubling report.

Speaking to the BBC this week, he said he could not rule out more staff leaving the troubled authority.

He said it would be 'naïve' not to recognise that more people may need to go, adding: ""If during our work, someone comes to us with an allegation or a complaint of bullying, intimidation or inappropriate behaviour, we will make sure it is taken very seriously and followed through and appropriate actions are taken."
