A senior interrogator at the Department of Special Investigation was transferred on Monday and faces an investigation after posting on Facebook that more abbots will be arrested.
Deputy spokesman Pol Maj Woranan Srilam said DSI director-general Paisith Wongmuang transferred Pisitchai Sawangwatanakorn from the DSI's taxation crime bureau to the office of special case experts, effective immediately.
This was prompted by Mr Pisitchai's posts on his personal Facebook page that more abbots would be arrested. He named four temples in Bangkok.
Although the messages were personal, Mr Pisitchai was a high-level official and posted messages on a case irrelevant to the DSI and himself. The posts had negative impacts on the DSI, Pol Maj Woranan said.
The taxation crime bureau was ordered to find out if Mr Pisitchai violated criminal and computer crime laws and had any special relationship with the mentioned abbots, the deputy spokesman said.
The DSI chief would consider punishment after the taxation crime bureau finished its investigation.
A source quoted Mr Pisitchai as saying he based his Facebook posts on media reports.
On May 24, police raided three famous Buddhist temples in Bangkok and arrested their senior monks, some of whom were Sangha Supreme Councillors, for alleged temple fund embezzlement and money laundering.
