Senegal reveals west Africa’s biggest mosque: the Massalikoul Djinane
West Africa’s biggest mosque - the Massalikoul Djinane - which means the ‘paths to paradise’ was officially unveiled to the public on September 27.
The president Macky Sall, religious and other political leaders from across the country attended the inauguration of the huge mosque which cost 30 million euros.
It was financed and built by the Mouride Muslim brotherhood - the biggest and most powerful branch of Islam in Senegal. Some 1600 police and security officers had locked down the area for the inauguration.
The woman behind the Brotherhoods stamp on the capital is 30 year old Marianne Seck Tall, the chief engineer and coordinator of the works as Emmanuelle Landais reports.
