Senegal out of World Cup due to fair play rule

Colombia has topped Group H thanks to a 1-0 win over Senegal, which has become the first-ever team to be eliminated by the fair play rule.

Yerry Mina's headed goal from a corner in the second half ultimately secured the win for Colombia, which put Senegal level on goals scored and goal difference with Japan, which lost 1-0 to Poland.

The two teams, which drew 2-2 with each other, could only be separated on the fair play metric, which saw Japan finish in second place thanks to conceding fewer yellow cards over its three matches than Senegal.

More to come.
