Senegal boss borrows famous Liverpool words and sends Sadio Mane message ahead of AFCON final

Senegal are 'taking inspiration' from Liverpool ahead of tonight's Africa Cup of Nations final.

Manager Aliou Cisse says his team is built around allowing Sadio Mane to express himself as he does in a red shirt.

His side are looking to win the title for the first time in their country's history tonight, but the test of Mohamed Salah and Egypt stand in their way.

Senegal booked their spot in the final with a 3-1 win over Burkina Faso earlier in the week, Mane stepped up with both a goal and an assist.

For Egypt things were far less comfortable as penalties were required to beat Cameroon, with neither side able to find a breakthrough within the 90 minutes or extra time.

Now, Salah and Mane will face each other in the final on Sunday evening, both as figureheads for their country.

Cisse says his side is built around Mane and allowing him to flourish as he does under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

"Many people claim we have a dependence on him, but us as head coaches, we build our team around our best players," Cisse told ESPN.

"We have built a team around him in the same way that he does at Liverpool.

"To do this, we have to play with intensity, we need that same intensity to support him to allow him to express himself [as he does with Liverpool].

"He's strong mentally, he leads the way for our team, and it's very good for me, as a coach of this team, to have this player in the dressing room.

"There are the players, the federation are here [in Cameroon], there are Senegalese journalists who want it too, and there's a whole unity of a country who want us to win.

"As Liverpool's song goes: 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' The world is behind us, and this is good pressure for us."

The final takes place in Cameroon on Sunday evening with kick off at 7:00pm GMT.
