The Reds star has shrugged off public criticism from Roy Keane, who questioned his place in the squad due to an injury suffered when playing for Liverpool, to provide Gareth Southgate with some vital experience to call upon.
Whilst the 31-year-old is yet to start a game in the tournament, with his untimely injury handing Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips the chance to impress in midfield, he has appeared off the bench in four of England's six games.
