Scene from Careers Advise by Mark Tidswell, an entrant in the Guardian's YouTube competition
You talking to me? A scene from Careers Advise by Mark Tidswell, an entrant in the Guardian's YouTube competition

It's nearly over – the deadline for the Guardian's Youtube film-making competition, as set up by our playwright columnist Mark Ravenhill, is drawing ever closer. If you're one of the 180,000-plus people who have watched Mark's launch video, you probably know that your five-minute films inspired by his short story Old School People need to be in by the end of this week.

A steady stream of aspiring film-makers have already sent in their entries – you can have a look at them here.

A random sampling will show you how different they are: Rebecca Davies has posted some nice lo-fi animation, while Paul Marke has created a slice of static-fuelled body horror. Mark Tidswell, on the other hand, has gone for the full CGI talking-suitcase effect.

So if you're rushing around trying to finish your epic, or have only just located your Handicam at the bottom of the laundry basket, you need to go here to find out how to enter and get on it sharpish.
