The list of the government's 250 hand-picked senators has been completed, with some cabinet ministers expected to soon resign their portfolios to take a seat in the upper house.
Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Friday all 250 names have been finalised, but refused to confirm they include some National Legislative Assembly members and some cabinet ministers.
The National Council for Peace and Order plans to announce the military regime's anointed senate on May 11, after the Election Commission declares the official result of the election of the 500 members of the new house of representatives.
The two houses, with a combined 750 seats, will pick the next prime minister, who needs a simple majority vote.
One of the ministers speculated to be on the senate list is Natural Resources and Environment Minister Surasak Kanchanarat.
A source said Gen Surasak was expected to resign on Wednesday to prepare for his new role as a senator.
