Senate confirms Kimberly Guilfoyle and 47 other Trump nominees in "nuclear" move

The Senate confirmed 48 of President Trump's nominees in a roll call vote Thursday after Republicans invoked the "nuclear option" by using a simple majority to officially change chamber rules.

The big picture: Among those confirmed on Thursday was Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host who was engaged to the president's elder son Donald Trump Jr., who's now U.S. ambassador to Greece.

  • Callista Gingrich, wife of former House speaker Newt Gingrich, will now serve as ambassador to both Switzerland and Liechtenstein following the 51-47 vote along party lines for the sub-Cabinet and ambassadorial positions.

State of play: The vote marked the first batch of confirmations under the "nuclear" move and Republicans aim to quickly move through a backlog of what's now nearly 100 civilian nominees following months of facing Democratic roadblocks, per Axios' Stef W. Kight.
