Sen. Rand Paul assaulted in Kentucky home, police say; suspect in jail

LEXINGTON, Ky. U.S. Sen. Rand Paul was assaulted at his home in Bowling Green Friday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police said Rene Boucher of Bowling Green had assaulted the Republican senator. The Warren County Attorney's office then issued a warrant for Boucher's arrest.

Boucher, 59, was taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.

Kelsey Cooper, a spokesman for Paul, said in a statement: "Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault. The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine."

Authorities released no details of the alleged assault.
