MINNEAPOLIS _ Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Thursday that her husband, John Bessler, who was recently diagnosed with coronavirus, was able to check out of the hospital and is now recovering at home.
"He took a good turn, was just released and is now recovering at home," Klobuchar, D-Minn., said in a statement. "Thanks to those who cared for him and all front line healthcare workers."
Klobuchar said that Bessler, 52, had to be hospitalized for pneumonia and low oxygen. She had announced his diagnosis on Monday.
She said at the time that Bessler, a law professor who teaches in Baltimore, had quarantined himself after coming down with cold-like symptoms. He sought medical care after developing a fever and coughing up blood, and received his diagnosis five days after his initial coronavirus test.
She also said she and Bessler had not seen each other for more than two weeks, and that doctors said she was outside a 14-day window for developing symptoms and did not need a test.
To date, one U.S. senator, Rand Paul of Kentucky, has been diagnosed with the virus.
