Sempra Stock: Is Wall Street Bullish or Bearish?

With a market cap of $55.1 billion, Sempra (SRE) is a leading North American energy infrastructure company focused on building America's premier utility growth business through reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions. With one of the continent's largest energy networks serving California and Texas, the company is recognized for its strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and responsible business practices.

Shares of the San Diego, California-based company have lagged behind the broader market over the past 52 weeks. SRE stock has risen 3.9% over this time frame, while the broader S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has rallied 21.5%. Moreover, shares of the company are down 4.5% on a YTD basis, compared to SPX's 12.6% gain.

Looking closer, shares of Sempra have outperformed the State Street Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF's (XLU) 1.3% return over the past 52 weeks.

Despite reporting better-than-expected Q2 2026 adjusted EPS of $1.16, Sempra shares fell marginally on Aug. 6 as the company reported revenue of $2.997 billion, falling below the consensus estimate. Investors were also cautious as long-term debt increased to $31.02 billion from $28.98 billion at the end of 2025, and the company's 2026 EPS guidance of $4.80 - $5.30 had a midpoint below the consensus estimate.

For the fiscal year ending in December 2026, analysts expect Sempra's EPS to grow 9.2% year-over-year to $5.12. The company's earnings surprise history is promising. It beat or met the consensus estimates in each of the last four quarters.

Among the 21 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on 14 “Strong Buy” ratings, one “Moderate Buy,” and six “Holds.”

This configuration is slightly more bullish than three months ago, with 13 “Strong Buy” ratings on the stock.

On Jul. 23, Morgan Stanley analyst David Arcaro maintained a “Buy” rating on Sempra Energy and set a price target of $108.

The mean price target of $104.87 represents a 24.3% premium to SRE’s current price levels. The Street-high price target of $118 suggests a 39.9% potential upside.
