Selma Blair tried to kill herself in college after her boyfriend broke up with her

Selma Blair has recalled how she tragically tried to kill herself in college when she split from her boyfriend.

The 49-year-old actress opened up about her love life in a new profile, where she discussed her early relationships, as she prepares for people to read all about her past and struggles with alcoholism in her new memoir, Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up.

In a heartbreaking chat about her past loves, she explained how she lost her first ever boyfriend Bradley Bluestone, who she had described as 'the Brad Pitt of Hillel Day School'. The pair dated for years on and off.

However, he was tragically found dead in his college dorm, as she admits she never found out how he died as "his parents couldn’t bear to put a label on what had happened to their son".

Her mother told her she would "never get over" what happened, as she recalled how she then went on to date a man called Jason, who gave her a list of all the things she needed to 'fix' about herself, before then going on to date Todd.

When they eventually split, she didn't know how to cope and after their romance came to an end, she found herself waiting until he was asleep one night and sneaking into his wardrobe.

She then made the heartbreaking decision to try and end her life, washing down some pills with tequila, but just before she was about to pass out, she changed her mind and woke Todd up.

Todd immediately called his mother, who lived upstairs and she called for help.

She had always promised she'd tell her mum if things got too much, but she never did that time: "It’s the worst thing she did to me. I know I broke her trust," she explained to Elle, "I had tried to kill myself - even if it was only for ten minutes.

"As outlandish and critical as she was, she would never get over one of us dying, especially by our own hand. I was dead to her for two years - either as punishment or perhaps she was bracing herself for the next time."
