Selma Blair has shared an emotional series of posts on Instagram about reuniting with her horse for the first time in months since she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).
The actor, 46, is a keen equestrian but hasn’t been able to go horse riding recently due to her MS, which has an adverse affect on a person’s mobility, often causing balance problems, muscle spasms and/or stiffness.
Blair explained how grateful she was to spend time with her horse, who she refers to as Mr Nibbles, on Sunday after her trainer brought him to her home, describing the reunion as “a fairytale”.
“I will heal. I will ride,” she wrote in a caption underneath the photograph in which she can be seen crying as she embraces her horse.
“But until then I will hold onto this feeling and post pictures whenever we all need to believe people will move mountains and horses to help us heal.”
The Hellboy actor posted a further two images, one with her trainer and another in which she is seen astride her horse and holding it tightly with her eyes closed.
“This woman. This horse. Thank you,” she captioned the former, writing only “I can” underneath the latter.
Blair was diagnosed with MS in August, sharing the news with fans in a candid Instagram post in October.
“I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things,” she wrote.
“My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken GPS.”
MS is an incurable condition that disrupts the central nervous system and, in addition to disrupting one’s mobility, can cause a number of debilitating symptoms over time, including blurred vision, difficulty walking and fatigue.
According to the NHS, there are more than 100,000 people with MS in the UK.
