Selling Sunset: What happened in season 5 and what can we expect from season 6?

Selling Sunset is finally back, with 11 new episodes ready to stream on Netflix from May 19.

It has been over a year since season five of the reality TV show about estate agents in Los Angeles was released and a lot has changed since then.

A number of the original cast members have returned for season six, including Chrishell Stause,  Emma Hernan, Mary Fitzgerald, Heather Rae El Moussa, Amanda Smith and Chelsea Lazkani, while the owners of the Oppenheim Group, Brett and Jason Oppenheim, appear too.

However, controversial fan-favourite Christine Quinn left for good at the end of the last season. In an interview with E News, she revealed that she wouldn’t even be watching the latest season: “For me, I don’t think I’ll watch the show just because I want to know them for who they are and not what they’re edited to be."

But for dedicated fans who can’t wait to catch up with the Selling Sunset group, refresh your memory with what happened at the end of the last season, and what you can expect from the new one.

What happened at the end of season five?

At the end of season five agent Chrishell Stause and agency owner Jason Oppenheim broke up after Jason revealed to Chrishell that he didn’t want children.

Chrishell opened up to Emma Hernan about the relationship ending, telling her: "He just told me that he doesn’t want to have kids. I’ve been clear with him about what this means. We’re done. We broke up."

However, other couples had happy endings: Heather Rae El Moussa (nee Young) married her partner Tarek El Moussa, while Vanessa Villela’s boyfriend, Nick Hardy, gave her a promise ring.

The agency also said goodbye to Maya Vander, who decided to move to Miami full-time to be with her husband and children. Earlier this month, Maya had a baby girl, Emma Reign.

Meanwhile, Christine stood Jason and Mary up, hinting at a future beyond the Oppenheim Group.

What can we expect from season six?

Season six offers viewers an insight into Chrishell’s new relationship with Australian singer G Flip, whom she married earlier this year.

“I know people think I’m having a midlife crisis,” Chrishell says in the trailer, “but I’m having an awakening.”

Meanwhile, boss Jason Oppenheim is heading to Europe with a new girlfriend, Marie-Lou Nurk, leaving Mary Fitzgerald in charge of the LA office.

Season six also offers a glimpse into Heather’s pregnancy journey with her husband, Tarek. The couple had a baby boy in January.

Davina will feature, though not as a full-time cast member, and Maya will make a guest appearance.

While the personal lives of the agents are a major focus of the show, viewers are reminded why they are there in the first place: real estate.

Chrishell says: “But goals don’t change. Ring that bell, and cash some checks.”

Two new estate agents, Bre Tiesi and Nicole Young, have joined the Sunset office, causing rifts among the original group as they try to sell luxury houses to California’s rich and famous.

One of the celebrities whose houses they’re trying to sell is singer Harry Styles. Emma reveals that her client purchased the property from Styles, and it is now back on the market, offering fans a glimpse into where Harry used to call home.

And if you’re wondering if Davina ever sold that house yet? Unfortunately for her, it’s still on the market for a whopping $75 million.

Maybe season seven.
