'Sell him to Sunderland' - Rodri shocks Man City fans with bizarre David Silva snub

Rodri you plonker! That might not be quite how Del Boy put it, but he might as well have done. After a dodgy first season and an up-and-down second, Manchester City's Spanish midfielder has really found his groove at the Etihad Stadium this season.

More than that, the holding midfielder has established himself as arguably the best player in his position in the world. A midfielder built in the mould of Sergio Busquets, it's hard to imagine anyone else pulling the strings at the heart of City's midfield quite like Rodri does.

He has improved so much in such a short space of time under Pep Guardiola that his pinpoint passing, ability to create space and calming presence on the ball are sorely missed whenever he doesn't play. His performances this season have seen the murmurs of 'plodri' around the Etihad Stadium replaced with cries of 'shoooot!' whenever he collects the ball within 30 yards of goal, such is his talent at hitting the ball incredibly hard. You could even say he has become a fans' favourite.

Now he's thrown that all away. Asked by CityTV to name his best XI of Spanish Premier League players, the usual suspects were there: Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso... BUT. NO. DAVID. SILVA.

Is this some kind of joke, Rodders? Are you telling us that El Mago, a four-time Premier League champion, scorer of 60 goals and provider of 106 assists in 309 games, world and European champion, who has a statue of himself outside the Etihad Stadium despite only leaving the club two years ago, is not one of the 11 best Spaniards to play in this country?

Either Rodri's memory is less use than a chocolate teapot, or we can add this cheeky dig to his growing list of wind-ups (although we must say we enjoyed his goal celebration at Arsenal more than this). We'll forgive you for this monumental slip-up, but City Twitter isn't going to forget this. Your card has been marked.

@DaveMassey65: I think releasing this April fools video early has backfired on Roders, to leave El Mago out is nothing short of staggering....
