Originally from Culross in Fife, Sandra and her husband Keith met at their local dance hall in Culross and were married in Culross Abbey. They then moved to Wishaw and opened K&S Miller newsagents in the town’s Meadowbank Road, which they have owned for over 30 years.
Danielle told Lanarkshire Live: “My gran and papa have worked seven days a week all the way throughout the pandemic. They have not had the shop shut once. They were actually doing home deliveries for elderly people in the community. They are really well known within their local community. They are also at the heart of our family as well.
“I wanted to nominate my gran because of everything she does for her kids and grandkids. She is such a strong woman."
And she actually donated one of her kidney at the age of almost 70 to help her cousin Liz
Danielle added: “She went through a four-way kidney transplant at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. My gran is incredible. She has had hip replacements but she just gets straight back up again.”
Sandra explained: “It was through a paired exchange. The four operations went ahead on the same day. Unfortunately, I wasn’t suitable for my cousin but because I gave my kidney, she got somebody else’s. My cousin is doing brilliantly now.”
And when Danielle told us about her amazing gran, we were only too pleased to help out, surprising her with this beautiful floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.
