An Irvine supermarket worker has been hailed by his colleagues after going the extra mile for a customer whose daughter is battling cancer.
Selfless Ally Berry, who works in the town's Asda, was approached by a customer seeking a specific photo frame. Sadly, the last one left in the store was damaged.
After finding out the frame was for the customer's daughter, diagnosed with terminal cancer, Ally decided to do everything in his power to find it.
And the on his day off, he drove 25 miles to the nearest store to source the exact frame and pick it up for the lady.
Service section leader Ally said: "I checked when the photo frame would be next in stock in our store – it wasn’t back in for a few days and the customer needed it for the weekend so I took it upon myself to check other stores.
"I know if I was in the same situation, I would appreciate the same.
"If finding the right photo frame for the little girl was the only thing I could do to make a small difference during such a difficult time for her, I didn’t mind in the slightest."
Diane Allan, general store manager at Asda Irvine, commented: "Ally regularly goes out of his way for our customers – but this time he went the extra mile, literally.
"Ally is friendly, approachable and nothing is ever too much for him – he wouldn’t have thought twice about going out of his way to put this customer first. We are delighted to have a colleague like Ally in our store and want to acknowledge his remarkable customer service.
"When we found out that he travelled to another store on his day off we were so moved by his warm-heartedness and generosity. The customer was so moved and wanted to give thanks to Ally – he is a real star.”
