'Selfish mum parked in child spot when she didn't have pram - so I told her off'

A mum has divided opinion online after slamming a fellow parent who used a family parking spot without having a pram.

The disgruntled parent believes such spaces should be reserved for people who need space to unload buggies, and she wanted to make her feelings known.

As such, she decided to reprimand the mum who used a 'parent child space' when she was out with her daughter. However, people were quick to criticise her actions when she shared what had happened online.

Posting to Mumsnet, the driver wanted to know if she'd been unreasonable for voicing her distaste to the mum.

"Whilst searching for a space today I noticed a woman and her child get out of the car. Now obviously they are 'parent child spaces' however her child must've been at least nine and got out the car completely independently," she explained.

"I did make a little comment out my window which I probably shouldn’t of done just saying 'think you forgot your baby'."

Expanding on her reasoning, she added: "In my opinion parent child spaces are for parents to have extra space getting a child in and out of a car seat, getting a buggy in and out and for little children.

"I think it's a bit selfish to use if you don't need it and I think she just wanted to be a bit closer to the shops."

"After finding a space I had to have my buggy half in the road as there’s no space either side of the car which isn’t her problem but it's just annoying when parents who don't need the extra space think they're still entitled to it."

But fellow parents had little sympathy for the mum and said she should have been kinder to the other driver.

"There's no age limit, there's no legal entitlement, and not all needs are visible. You are always free to keep your opinions out of other people's lives," read one reply.

Someone else pointed out: "It's a shame you were inconvenienced but it’s not fair to comment and judge others who are legitimately allowed to used the spaces."

Another commenter revealed: "ADHD parent here, I like to protect other people's car doors when my child opens the door without thinking, listening or concentrating!"

Meanwhile, someone simply quizzed: "Was her child not a child then?"
