'Selfish idiots' - anger as huge groups of Portobello beach revellers gather despite rule of six

Portobello beach goers have been slammed for breaking the government's rule of six guidance as large groups were pictured gathering in yesterday's good weather.

Images of one mass group of 30-40 'young people' are currently circulating online, with no social distancing practiced by the brazen youngsters.

Current government guidance states that state no more than six people from two households should meet indoors or outdoors.

One person told the Record: "It wasn’t the only group - there were a number of gatherings. It looked and sounded like students."

Angry members of the public took to Twitter to slam the non-social distancing group.

One Twitter user wrote: "Not to be the grumpy old man again, but just been walking along Portobello beach & there’s like a big party of 30-40 people, and a number of other smaller groups of 10-20. Selfish idiots, no wonder we’re going into a second wave."

Another added: "Where was the police to stop it? All off us following the rules are gonna suffer because of them."

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon hinted "difficult but necessary decisions" were to be made about the possibility another lockdown amid a rise in cases.

The First Minister said figures from this weekend will dictate whether "additional steps" will be needed.
