'Selfish' dog owner wipes out rescue centre's food bank in one foul £230 swoop

A "selfish" dog owner has been shamed after cleaning out the entire contents of a charity food bank. The woman, who has not been identified, made claim to £230 worth of dog food that had been left out by Freedom Dog Field rescue centre in Keelby, near Grimsby, in Lincolnshire.

Owner Erica Fox was left "heartbroken" after she discovered the stash of dog food had been taken by one person. But regretting her actions, the dog owner has now returned around £90 worth of the food. "They've done us a massive favour to be honest," Erica told Grimsby Live.

The food was first taken in broad daylight on Monday, December 5, with Erica saying: "At 3pm when I left my house, I noticed a poo bag on my grass outside, and I knew I'd put poo bags in the box, so I went and had a look.

"It was completely empty except for three sachets of cat food, a tin of dog food and a bag of biscuits.

"I was absolutely heartbroken. I cried. They literally took everything and I couldn't believe the greed of some people.

"Two of the bags of food were £70 each because it was special dietary food, which some people really need for their pets."

Even though not all the food has been returned, Erica feels this is "better than nothing" and is grateful for the woman's honesty.

However, she will only be filling the box with a small amount of food from now on.

Ever since the incident, Freedom Dog Field has received a considerable number of donations with local residents wanting to support them in any way they can.

Over the last week, they've collected more than £350 and have even had several people donating packs of pet food.

"I just want to say a massive heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated, especially in these hard times," Erica added.

"I wish people wouldn't feel embarrassed about coming to us for help. We have so much stock, please make use of us."
