‘Selfish’ dad slammed by TikTok users after sharing ‘excessive’ lockdown shopping receipt from Tesco

A dad has been blasted by furious TikTok users after sharing a receipt of his ‘lockdown’ shopping spree.

The man, named Jay, uploaded a short clip following a trip to his local Tesco supermarket after being tasked to get the ‘essentials’ by his wife, Birmingham Live reports.

The lengthy itemised list, which has since been viewed more than 2.3 million times, provoked mixed responses with many believing he was failing to think of others during the UK's third Covid-19 lockdown.

Sharing the video, Jay wrote: “Most men in the UK will understand. When the wife says she needs a ‘lockdown’ shop.”

One critic responded: "Lucky for those who can afford excessive shopping … Nice of them to be thoughtful and empty the shelves for those who can’t."

"That'll be all the wee pensioners going without now that the panic buying has commenced," a second chipped in with.

"Selfish," a third agreed, but Jay hit back, saying: "Show me the panic buying?

"That’s a family shop to last 4/5 days … we’re a big family stuck in the house … need plenty of snacks."

The image showed Jay and his wife had done a big shop at their local store in Newcastle.

Tesco is staying open throughout the lockdown with stores selling essential items.
