AYUTTHAYA: Two factory workers who allegedly made and sold guns online for six years have been arrested and four guns and about 100 cartridges seized in Wang Noi district.
Police stopped their car in front of an industrial estate near Phahon Yothin Road around 5am on Tuesday.
A search of the vehicle uncovered two unregistered guns wrapped in boxes in the back of the car. Driver Nukul Paracha, 33, from Maha Sarakham, and companion Wanchalerm Panchamul, 21, were arrested.
Police said they then took the two suspects to their rented house, where they found two more unregistered guns and almost 100 rounds of ammunition.
Mr Nukul, the alleged leader, told police he and his accomplice worked as technicians at a factory in Wang Noi district. He liked firearms and had taught himself how to make guns.
Armed with his technical skills, he illegally used the factory’s equipment to produce gun parts. He assembled the firearms in the rented premises where he and his accomplice stayed.
According to police, Mr Nukul admitted having sold guns via the internet and mobile phone for at least six years.
The suspect said he was able to make all sizes and models of guns and sold them for 24,000 baht each. He also provided a service to customise guns, including modifying BB guns so they could fire real ammunition. He claimed he had many customers, according to police.
Police charged the two men with illegally making and possessing firearms.
