Self-reliance values must be nurtured, says outgoing Madhya Pradesh governor

BHOPAL: The outgoing Madhya Pradesh governor, Anandiben Patel, was in state capital Bhopal on Wednesday. The newly-appointed governor Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel would take the oath of office on Thursday.

Anandiben is expected to remain present on the occasion, since she is in Bhopal and expected to return to Lucknow only on Thursday evening.

Anandiben also greeted Mangubhai when the latter reached the Raj Bhawan in the evening.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also reached the Raj Bhawan on a courtesy call to meet the outgoing governor on Wednesday morning. The CM also felicitated her by presenting a bunch of flowers.

Later in the day, Anandiben was accorded a warm farewell by the Raj Bhawan staff. Senior officials of the general administration department were also present during the farewell function.

The outgoing governor spent her last day in office by meeting people. She held a discussion with the residents and staff of the Bal Griha Balika, which is run by the women and child development department.

Anandiben said that the values of self-reliance should be nurtured in the girl child. "They should be motivated to become self-reliant by making them skilled", she said. She has provided materials worth about Rs7 lakh to four social service organisations in Bhopal city after getting information about their requirements.

Anandiben discussed with the resident girls about their daily routine. She also received information about the arrangements related to the operation of the girls' home. She inspected the storerooms, toilets, kitchen and bedrooms.

Anandiben has served as governor of MP twice. First, she was appointed as governor between January 2018 and July 2019. She was later appointed as the Uttar Pradesh governor and the late Lalji Tandon replaced her in MP, but in June last year, the President gave her additional charge of MP due to the prolonged illness of Tandon, who later passed away. She remained the MP governor after Tandon's death.
