RVs still have a way to go before the public thinks of them as stylish, hip and worth some of the large coin being asked for some of them. But each year, as automotive technology across the globe advances, so that knowledge extends to the RV industry. You’ll find units that are more stylish, more quality-controlled, and up-to-date techwise in 2020 than ever before as well as wildly differing sizes.
And if for some reason you need to spend two weeks in quarantine, how better to break the monotony by driving your house down the block or to another state?
Here are five 2020 RVs from Winnebago – I’ll bring you more from different manufacturers as spring and summer approach and we’re out of this mess, hopefully.
Horizon $434,968
Power, style, elegance and details, details, details – all are on board in the flagship Horizon. LED halo lighting and luxurious Villa furnishings abound as well as a spacious master bedroom with a walkaround recline and incline king bed. An insanely powerful Cummins ISL 8.9L turbo charged diesel engine with 1,250 lb-ft of torque and 450 hp motivates you, and ABS brakes help ensure that guy who cuts right in front of you on the freeway doesn’t get pancaked.
It’s got abundant interior storage and full galley with a residential style refrigerator suitable for actual meals with guests, and the “Glide & Dine” dining table and chairs let you configure it suit your needs.

Winnebago Forza $268,240
This mighty-mighty family-sized RV’s list of goodies is extensive, starting with its Cummins ISB 6.7 litre diesel engine with 340 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. ABS brakes come with, along with a 10,000-pound trailing package, Freightliner OptiView All Digital LCD Instrument Cluster and Information display center, automatic hydraulic leveling jacks, and more. You roll in comfort and style via UltraFabrics collection Primera leather cab seats that rotate and swivel, and the passenger includes the +Lounger option, an oversized passenger seat with an integrated solid surface workstation.
Other standard features include an MCD solar and blackout roller shade system, a stacked washer and dryer, electric fireplace, powered overhead bed studio loft, an undercarriage ground effects lighting package with Bluetooth connectivity controls.
Interior room is plentiful, and you’ve also got 153 cubic feet of basement and exterior storage. Your fuel tank holds 90 gallons and there’s also a dual 13,500 BTU ducted air conditioning system with AC heat pump to cool all of you in the summer months.
The Sunstar allows buyers to get specific with their many available floor plans ranging from just over 27′ for the smallest, to just over 32′ for the largest. Other amenities includ MCD roller shades, LED lighting, and an available powered StudioLoft bed for the brood or the menagerie. The Sunstar is my favorite of the bunch because of its “Pet Palace” featuring a PetPal leash tiedown, as well as vinyl flooring in case of doggie accidents. The bedroom also offers a generous queen mattress, sliding doors for privacy and a full bath. Eat your meals at the dinette with Hi-Lo table, or on the sofa bed. The furniture doubles as extra sleeping space, and you can add yet more sleepers by opting for the StudioLoft bed. Another popular option for this unit is the tailgate package with features such as an outside refrigerator, a portable grill with folding stand, an ice chest with a drain plug, and more. The interior offers a plethora of decor choices, a OnePlace systems monitor and is satellite system ready.
A 10-cylinder Triton V10 engine with 10 cylinders delivering 320 horsepower makes this a roaring machine when needed, but your mileage will be predictably low. The interior kitchen features a stainless steel RV grill, ice chest with lid and refrigerator.
The Solis brings delivers solo or duo adventure-dom, though it sleeps four if needed, or two dogs. It’s got a front-wheel-drive Ram Promaster chassis and provides a reasonable 6’2 inches of interior height (with the pop-top down) and a fairly compact 19-foot, nine-inch length. That means you’ve far more mobility than its brother Winnebago behemoths, and you can conceivably dash into town from your camp without a major production.
Despite its small size, you can install a rear sofa bed; there’s a fold-down Murphy as standard. A ladder-accessed pop-top houses a 220-watt solar panel and also conceals a large bed. There’s also a wet bath with a European-type “cassette” toilet, one you can dump if you wish as its contents don’t travel through the innards of the unit. The list of further goodies includes a two-burner stove, a hot/cold water sink, a compressor-driven fridge, and a Truma heating system for when the temperature dips.
Winnebago Boldt 70 KL $199,064
This fuel-efficient Mercedes Benz VS30 van, partnered with the Pure 3 Volta Power Systems Lithium energy system, makes the Boldt a forward-thinking unit for ecology-minder campers.
Its Pure 3 Volta Power Systems automotive grade 48V energy pack provides 11,600 watt hours of energy and its energy pack is watertight, with climate-controlled batteries. Its compact design keeps it out of the way of curbs and road debris, and also provides quick recharge time. I especially like its Crosswind Assist, as anyone who has ever been battered by highway winds will welcome. This feature detects strong gusts of crosswind and at speeds over 50 mph it corrects the vehicle’s course by means of automatic braking intervention on the wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the wind.
The Boldt’s new Mercedes Benz VS30 Sprinter 3.0 litre, six cylinder turbo diesel engine delivers 188 hp and 325 lb ft of torque, meaning you’re not going to win any speed races. But you will get much better mileage than your brother behemoths.
