Self-employed country worker forced to stop job in Dublin after jeep and tools worth €18,000 stolen from outside Liffey Valley hotel during night

A worker from the country has been forced to put a halt to a job after his vehicle and working tools were stolen outside a Dublin hotel as he slept.

Shane McDonagh from Mayo is currently working on a job in Leixlip but has been forced to down tools after the theft of his jeep, which contained equipment for the job worth a combined total of €18,000, outside the Clayton Hotel in Liffey Valley.

The self-employed tree surgeon has been losing money each day since the theft and has offered a huge reward to anyone who has information on its whereabouts.

He told Dublin Live: "When I went down to start the jeep on Wednesday morning, it was gone. It was taken during the middle of the night as I slept in the hotel.

"I immediately reported it to the hotel and gardai and the hotel forwarded on the CCTV footage that they had to Ronanstown Garda Station.

"The tools in the back of the jeep alone are worth €3,000 and the Toyota Hilux is worth €15,000."

"The windows are tinted so you can't even see that there is tools inside."

Shane is willing to offer a €1000 reward for anyone with information leading to the return of the stolen goods.

He added: "I haven't been able to work for the past two days now because of this. I am self-employed and have a tree surgeon plant hire. I still have to pay workers and the hotel despite the fact that I am losing money every day I'm here and unable to work.

A spokesman for the gardai told Dublin Live: "A vehicle was taken from outside a premises in the Liffey Valley area, Dublin, between 1:30-4:50am. Investigations are ongoing."

Dublin Live has contacted the hotel on a number of occasions for a comment.
