Selector Donie Buckley leaves Kerry senior football management team

Selector Donie Buckley has left the Kerry senior football management team.

The county confirmed the news in a statement this morning.

One of the most highly rated coaches in the game, Buckley's involvement was seen as central to Peter Keane getting the job in late 2018.

It is not the first time he’s left the Kerry management team, having parted ways with Jack O’Connor during his second stint as manager.

He then went to Mayo and worked under James Horan, Pat Holmes/Noel Connelly (joint managers) and Stephen Rochford when they went so close so often.

Originally from the Castleisland Desmonds club, Buckley also previously coached Limerick and managed Clare.

Kerry County Board Chairman Tim Murphy said: "I wish to confirm that Donie Buckley is no longer a member of the Kerry Senior Football Management Team.

"On behalf of the Board, the senior football panel & management and Kerry Supporters, I want to thank Donie for his very valuable contribution to the development of our players over the past 18 months and wish him the very best in the future.

"It is not intended to make any further appointments to the senior football management team. The existing management team will continue to take responsibility for all aspects of team preparation and selection."
