Selection dilemma - predicted Nottingham Forest team for crunch Luton Town clash

Nottingham Forest will aim to put successive defeats behind them on Saturday, when they make the trip to face Luton Town.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men have had extra time to prepare for their clash with the Hatters, after last weekend’s game with Reading was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the City Ground.

But the Reds head coach will still have some selection decisions to make when it comes to his team’s trip to Kenilworth Road.

With his side having lost at home to Hull City last time out, we take a look at what changes Lamouchi is likely to make.

Defence

Goalkeeper and right-back are sorted, with Brice Samba and Matty Cash’s places in the first XI all but a given.

In the centre of the back line, though, there is a little uncertainty about who will line up alongside Joe Worrall.

Michael Dawson was due to be back involved with the team this week, having recovered from a calf injury. But it remains to be seen whether that means he is available to face Luton.

If not, that would leave a toss up between Tobias Figueiredo and Chema.

Lamouchi has used both alongside Worrall, in different games, in Dawson’s absence.

It was Chema who got the nod against the Tigers, and despite the two goals conceded that night, it could be he keeps his place to maintain some consistency in the defence.

There’s also a call to be made at left-back.

Jack Robinson has started the last two games and is the more defensively-minded of Lamouchi’s two options.

However, if the Frenchman is looking to get at the Hatters, Yuri Ribeiro’s attacking instincts might give him the edge.

Midfield

It is almost certain to be Ben Watson and A.N. Other taking on the deeper roles in the centre of the pitch.

Samba Sow and Alfa Semedo are likely to still be ruled out through injury, but Ryan Yates is back in contention.

The Nigel Doughty Academy product made his first appearance of the campaign when he came off the bench against Hull.

He looked bright in that final half hour and with the added recovery time from this weekend, he might well get the green light ahead of Tiago Silva, who had started that game.

Lamouchi has spoken highly of Yates and could be keen to get a closer look at him in competitive action.

That might mean John Bostock is again left waiting for another chance, having made his first Championship start at Wigan Athletic a couple of weeks ago.

Attack

Lamouchi went for Rafa Mir up front in that defeat to the Latics. But it would be a surprise if Lewis Grabban isn’t the main striker again this weekend, having returned to the XI against Hull.

How Forest will look behind him is up for debate.

The head coach has a few options.

Joe Lolley, Joao Carvalho and Sammy Ameobi made up the attacking trio supporting Grabban for the Hull game.

But Silva can also play a more advanced role and Albert Adomah came off the bench against the Tigers.

Lolley has so far this season, and Lamouchi has backed him to get back to terrorising defences. Whether the manager feels he would benefit from a break or believes playing through it is the best way to find top form, is a decision for him to make.

Carvalho, too, hasn’t quite been at his brilliant best since returning from injury, but still has the ability to play a match-winning pass even on an off day.

Lamouchi must weigh up whether to freshen up a side which lost to Hull or give those same players a chance to put things right.

Predicted Forest XI: Samba, Cash, Worrall, Chema, Ribeiro, Watson, Yates, Lolley, Carvalho, Adomah, Grabban.
