Selected Tesco and Morrisons in Merseyside to close Boxing Day

Supermarket giants Tesco and Morrisons have confirmed selected stores will be closed this Boxing Day.

Boxing Day is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year but there will be two supermarket stores which will remain closed.

Anyone wishing to shop at Tesco's Liverpool ONE superstore on Hanover Street, Deysbrook Barracks store, or its store in Woolton will have to wait until Friday, December 27 when its stores reopen.

The same goes for Morrisons' Maghull store.

Both retailers confirmed the news on their websites detailing Christmas opening hours.

Tesco's Litherland superstore and Park Road superstore will be unaffected neither will Morrisons' Speke store.

The decision whether stores should close on Boxing Day has long been debated with many feeling staff deserve a break while others believe it's a big opportunity for retailer to win back customers and sales.

Full supermarket opening and closing times for Christmas and New Year 2019 can be found here.

This year however it seems many stores are choosing to close: Aldi, Lidl, John Lewis and Home Bargains are among those that will be closed.

Homebase, Marks & Spencer's Aintree Shopping Park and Liverpool Shopping Park will be among the stores closed. Its Church Street store will remain open.
