'Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice' Looks So Incredible And The Wait Is Killing Me

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice looks too amazing for words.

From Software’s newest game is the ninja-themed Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

A bunch of game journalists and YouTubers got to play it at Gamescome in Cologne, Germany this week and it’s the one thing that makes me wish I’d attended this year. (Well, that and going to Germany, but it costs a lot of money!)

Here’s YouTuber VaatiVidya playing the game demo and it looks like everything I hoped it would be and more:

Combat looks awesome, and the animations are simply outstanding. The best From has ever made. The environments are gorgeous, the enemy design impeccable—and man, those fights look tough.

Sculptor’s Idols take the place of bonfires and act as checkpoints. You can see how all these things work in the video as there appears to be a halfway decent tutorial in this game, possibly thanks to the polish Activision is bringing to the table.

Engadget’s preview of the game discusses how it takes the Bloodborne template even further, distancing itself more and more from the slower Souls games. The new Resurrection system—when you die you can choose to be resurrected at half life and, if you kill the enemy that just took you out, you’ll get back to full health—is a new take on Bloodborne’s Regain system. But this game ditches stat progression, classes and most RPG stuff in favor of progression based around new abilities and items.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

I remember playing the Bloodborne demo at the very first PlayStation Experience way back in 2014. Crazy how time flies. I found it utterly perplexing to play simply because it was so incredibly different from the Dark Souls games I was accustomed to. This looks like it will once again scramble our brains with new mechanics and a wholly different play style. It’s so fast and movement is so fluid and vertical.

In any case, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice launches on March 22nd so we’ll just have to wait forever to play it. I’m hoping I’ll get to some event prior to that to give it a shot because dear god it looks incredible.
