- A segment of the original Eiffel Tower staircase is scheduled to be auctioned in France on 21 May.
- The staircase, designed by Gustave Eiffel, was constructed in 1889 and originally connected the second and third floors of the Parisian landmark.
- In 1983, the spiral staircases were dismantled into 24 individual parts, replaced by elevators, and subsequently sold at auction.
- The 8.5ft tall segment for sale has been in a private collection for over forty years and was recently restored to its original brown colour.
- Artcurial, the French auction house, estimates the piece could fetch up to £43,000, although a similar segment sold for £455,000 in 2016.
