Sefton Park Palm House celebrating 125 year anniversary with free family fun day

The Palm House at Sefton Park is hosting a free Family Fun Day in celebration of its 125th anniversary.

The iconic dome-shaped glass Victorian building is packed with lush flora and fauna and now operates as a charity, well known for staging a range of events including gigs, film screenings, music shows, dance nights and even weddings.

As part of its 125th anniversary, people are invited to bring a picnic and a blanket to take part in its Family Fun Day.

As the venue celebrates its 125th year, it has taken inspiration from some of the plants on display there which are part of the historic Liverpool Botanical Collection founded by William Roscoe.

A poem by William Roscoe, The Butterfly's Ball and Grasshoppers Feast, describes a party for insects - and the Palm House wants to see families in their "best bug dress up".

Parents, carers, friends and more are invited to bring their little ladybirds, butterflies, grasshoppers and spiders to help the Palm House celebrate such a special birthday.

Visitors to the free event will have the opportunity to make a head band to go with their outfit and a chance to display their costume and head band in all its glory during the parade around the Palm House.

There will be free activities for families to enjoy including a minibeast hunt with the Urban Environmentalist, storytelling and games with the Bookworm Players all to the soundtrack of relaxing ragtime jazz and exciting drummers.

The free event was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 4 but in light of the Prime Minister's announcement that he will delay the roadmap - and not start Step Four in England on June 21 - the event has been moved.

England will remain at Step Three for four more weeks until Monday, July 19. Sefton Park's event will now take place on July 27.

The Palm House Café will be open from 10am until 4pm serving artisan teas and coffee, delicious cakes, tasty treats and indulgent Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.

Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust is a registered charity set up in 1996 to manage Sefton Park Palm House.
