Sefton Park 'memory tree' blown over in strong winds

South Liverpool residents have voiced their sadness after a much-loved tree in Sefton Park was blown down.

Residents and visitors to the park contacted the ECHO after noticing on visits to the park that the tree, located at the bottom of a set of steps in the Fairy Glen area of the park, appeared to have been blown down.

Often covered in multi-covered ribbons and other ornaments and messages, the distinctive tree was used by many to attach messages, with many representing tributes to loved ones.

Pictures posted before the tree was removed show it lying on the ground broken close to the stream in the park, while an image taken afterwards appears to show a heart-shaped ornament lying next to the stump where the tree was once located.

Liverpool Council have now confirmed that the tree had to be removed by workers after it was winds blew it down last week.
