Seething woman turns car around after boyfriend invites pals along on romantic trip

A woman says she was left seething after her boyfriend of six months invited his friends along on what she had hoped would be a romantic road trip. The 30-year-old woman says her boyfriend, whose name is Smith, kept badgering her to let his friends come along too, and so she initially told him the trip couldn't go ahead.

There were various reasons as to why she didn't want his mates tagging along, including the fact that she was paying for expenses and they would also be travelling in her car. She didn't want to end up paying for them as well. However, after this initial veto, he ended up floating the idea of a trip once again, promising that his friends would be nowhere near.

She agreed to this and was looking forward to the trip. However, she was in for a nasty surprise when she went to pick him up from his house on the morning they were due to set off.

Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username u/Throwawayp5345, the ticked-off girlfriend recalled: "I came in my car and entered his neighborhood. However, when I saw him standing outside with his bag and his two friends were also standing there with their bags.

"I was shocked and furious. I didn't pull over I just turned around and kept driving and went back home. I saw him running after me in the rearview mirror. He then stopped and started calling me. I did not respond until I got home."

She continued: "He lashed out at me on the phone asking why the hell I turned around and left. I told him why and how I didn't appreciate how he basically tried to force me to take his friends with us after I said 'no' already.

"He called me awful and said that I ruined the entire thing for us and acted immaturely and spitefully. He said I could've just accepted it how it is but I told him that I would never accept being put in a situation where I'm expected to just 'suck it up'. He hung up after yelling at me for a few minutes."

He is now refusing to speak with her until she apologises and claims she "embarrassed" him in front of his friends. She's now wondering whether she should have just gone along with things and has reached out to fellow Reddit users for advice.

One person commented: "You should not or ever talk to him again. Never let someone treat you like that ever again. He said what was important to him, his friends, when they were there after you said no. He then continued to emotionally abuse you."

Another said: "When people test your boundaries and question your no it’s time to re-evaluate whether or not you should continue the relationship. Break up with him girl, he doesn’t respect you and is willing to lie to get his way. Your response was perfect."
