'Seen the horrors' - Nottingham Forest star questions Boris Johnson's lockdown policy

Nottingham Forest star Joe Lolley has questioned the Government's response to the coronavirus crisis and recent comments made by Prime Minister Boris Johnson regarding the latest lockdown guidelines.

Fresh advice was issued at the weekend in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, which including a slight relaxing of some of the lockdown rules.

When asked to address some confusion over the strategy, Mr Johnson called on the public to use "good, solid British common sense".

There have now been more than 40,000 coronavirus-related deaths in the UK.

The outspoken Lolley appears to be less than impressed by the Prime Minister's latest comments, and suggested action should have been taken earlier to deal with the threat of the virus.

"Wonder how many lives could have been saved had we used basic British common sense and cancelled major sporting events, or (not) let 3,000 Atletico fans into L’pool (for a Champions League match) or lockdowned quicker having seen the horrors in Italy," he tweeted.

"The thing with common sense, you can interpret it anyway you wish.

"So many people who support Gov happily admit these (are) mistakes at the start, so when the people leading the country can’t get the basics right how do you expect 66 million people with contrasting views in all aspects of life to adhere to the exact same use of ‘common sense’."

Forest's Championship season remains suspended until further notice due to the pandemic.

Sabri Lamouchi's men are fifth in the table - in a play-off position - with nine games to go.

The EFL is hoping to resume and complete the campaign when it is deemed safe to do so.
