It seems like only yesterday I was talking about people being compensated when their employer discriminated against them. And here we are again today - Microsoft's Bcentral site has a story about age discrimination.
It's illegal, which is good. And small firms are going to be hit hardest by it, which is less good. The reason seems to be that they have the smallest HR resource and as such aren't going to be able to follow every nuance of legislation relating to employment.
Which is sort of OK, until you bear in mind that there have been a lot of laws introduced in recent years - flexible working, discrimination, all good stuff - and very little in the way of extra help on offer for the smaller business or start-up to keep pace with it. So the onus is on the business owner or manager, which takes up time and therefore costs the business.
Have any Business Insight readers had to struggle to keep up with employment laws?
