Seeds of subversion: Little Sparta garden

Ian Hamilton Finlay, Apollon Terroriste
Scottish poet and artist Ian Hamilton Finlay pays passionate homage to the classical tradition in his modern mythological garden. Finlay died in 2006 and left behind an art garden whose sculptures collide ancient Greece and Rome with modern history. The god Pan gets mixed up with Panzer tanks. Apollo is celebrated for his violence. Uneasy evocations of power and danger make this a subversive modern interpretation of myths first brought to Britain by the ancient Romans, whose villas and forts dot the isles
