'See you next season!' Leeds United fans revel in Derby County's play-off final defeat

A fortnight is a long time in football.

Less than two weeks ago Derby County were flying high on the back of their Championship play-off semi-final win over Leeds United , as Frank Lampard led the Rams' celebrations at Elland Road, first on the pitch and then in the dressing room.

Compare and contrast that the scenes at Wembley on Monday afternoon, when the Derby players sank to the turf following their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Wembley final, as their dreams of ending an 11-year Premier League exile were dashed.

Anwar El Ghazi, a former Marcelo Bielsa player at Lille, was the architect, opening the scoring shortly before the break with an excellent diving header, before his ball into the box was not dealt with by Kelle Roos, who let John McGinn nudge it home on 59 minutes.

Substitute Jack Marriott would net with nine minutes remaining

The match would end 2-0, meaning that Lampard's side were condemned to another year in the second tier and a chance to renew their rivallry with Marcelo Bielsa's side next season.

And as you'd expect, more than a few Leeds fans took to social media take aim at the Rams, as their Elland Road celebrations over the spygate controversy came back to haunt them.
