See the terrifying moment 'crazed' man targets house with mum and toddler inside

Staring through the window and trying the front door handle - this is the terrifying moment a 'crazed' man tormented a mum and toddler inside their own home.

The unsettling footage was filmed by mum Kerry Vintis from her home in Blyth, Northumberland, on Wednesday night.

Cradling her two-year-old son Freddie, Kerry managed to remain calm throughout the 30-minute ordeal as the man made several attempts to access the property.

The video shows Freddie repeatedly shouting "go away" as the would-be intruder tries the front door and makes gestures at the window.

Northumbria Police is investigating the incident, and Kerry has bravely spoken out in an attempt to track down the culprit.

She said: "I was absolutely terrified, I had no idea what the man wanted. He was definitely crazed.

"I was trying to stay calm for Freddie, and he was peering into the window saying something to us.

"I did not have a good night's sleep that night. I was lying in bed thinking if I had left the door unlocked."

The unnerving episode on Newcastle Road began just after 8pm as Kerry opened her door to bid goodbye to one of her older sons.

The 48-year-old mum spotted the young man in a dark-hooded jacket on the street and initially thought nothing of him.

But she was quickly forced into action when the man started taking strides towards her home.

Kerry said: "He started walking towards my door with purpose. The bairn was on the step and I had to pull him in and slam the door.

"The man proceeded to kick my door and kept asking me to open it.

"He was trying my handles, trying to get in the back gates. I didn't know what he was going to do."

Kerry, who works part-time at her local Co-Operative store, noticed the would-be intruder was clutching a half-drunk bottle of Smirnoff.

Following the initial flurry of activity, the man then calmly waited outside the window staring at the mum and Freddie.

Kerry added: "I could not work out how to use my own phone, I was that panicked."

The frantic mum managed to dial Northumbria Police, but the man had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended and conducted a search of the area, but the man in question was no longer present.

"Nobody was injured and inquiries are ongoing.

"We would always encourage anybody who sees anything suspicious to contact police on 101. In an emergency, call 999."
