See the full list of bridges closed in Scotland as gust speeds increase

BRIDGES are closing across Scotland as Storm Floris moves inland from the Atlantic.

A yellow warning for wind for northern parts of the UK became active at 6am on Monday, lasting until 6am on Tuesday. Central and northern Scotland are covered by a more serious amber warning from 10am to 10pm on Monday.

A number of train services will halt from midday and ferry sailings have been cancelled, and the storm is also disrupting road traffic and bridges.

Gusts could reach as high as 85mph, the Met Office said.

When winds reach 45mph, double-decker buses are prohibited from crossing most bridges in Scotland.

At 60mph, all vehicles except cars and single-decker buses are banned. However, when winds exceed 80mph, bridges are closed to all vehicles.

Current closures:

  • Tyne Bridge closed in both directions
  • Tay Road Bridge closed to double decker buses
  • Forth Road Bridge closed to double decker buses, motorcycles, and pedestrians
  • Clackmannanshire Bridge closed to high-sided vehicles
  • Skye Bridge closed to high-sided vehicles
  • Dornoch Bridge closed to all vehicles in both directions

The Queensferry Crossing is currently open to all traffic, and a caution high winds alert has been implemented on the Erskine Bridge, Friarton Bridge and Kincardine Bridge.

Kessock Bridge and Cromarty Bridge are all on standby.
