See the dogs of the Tynedale Hunt out in force in the Northumberland countryside

A large pack of hunting dogs flocked through quiet Northumberland paths and roads on Friday.

The hounds of the Tynedale Hunt, led by a number of men on bicycles were spotted exercising in the fields and roads near Aydon Castle, Corbridge.

Photographer Simon Greener captured these images of the large pack as they travelled through the countryside.

The Tynedale Hunt, which says it operates within the law banning the recreational hunting of wild mammals, including foxes, says it works to teach hounds "to hunt an artificial trail and to discipline them to be exercised across open country".

The hunt, lead by Tynedale Master huntsman Charlie Shirley-Beavan, ordinarily runs "simulated hunting" meets, in which hounds follow a scent trail, although these activities have not been possible during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Initially, hunting of any kind was only allowed during lockdown for "essential pest control".

Now, outdoor recreational exercise of most kinds are allowed - although people are still not allowed to meet in groups of more than six.

The Tynedale Hunt, which is well-known in the area for its traditional Boxing Day hunting event, says it has been hunting foxes in South Northumberland for over 160 years.

The pack of around 40 dogs would normally take part in simulated hunts over the winter season, which usually stops in around March, but the dogs would continue to train and exercise over the summer period.
