See the devastating aftermath of East Rainton bus fire

Shocking video footage show the aftermath of a bus that caught fire in East Rainton.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Durham Road at around 12.30pm on Friday.

In the footage caught by a passer-by, the front of the bus can be seen badly damaged and the side windows appear to have been blown out.

Northumbria Police confirmed no-one was injured during the incident.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) sent two appliances to the scene and police officers were also in attendance.

A TWFRS spokeswoman said: “Crews from Rainton Bridge and Farringdon attended to put the fire out and the incident was concluded by 12.31pm. Nobody was injured.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At about 12.30pm police received a report that a bus was on fire on Durham Road in East Rainton that had led to the road being closed.

“Officers attended the area but were not required and the road was reopened a short time later.”
